I also thought of "peace and serenity" when viewing your poster until I took a closer look and saw the background images. I like the way you combined the images of the hands and dove (with the purple ribbon)with the images of violence, sadness, and despair.
I thought the mirage of pictures in the background really explain the message you are trying to bring out. after closer examining the image, i notices the dove and the purple image. i had no idea that that is the logo for stop violence. pretty cool
Your poster clearly displays many areas of abuse including that against women and children. Your use of black and white for the background images works well and you did a nice job blending them. The dove represents hope rising from the center of this violence and the ribbon speaks of a better day ahead if the violence is stopped as in the book by Alice Walker, "The Color Purple". In that book, the character Celie "longs to wear purple, a color she associates with royalty and with vibrant women..., and a color she thinks God may have created in order to receive love"(http://www.harcourtbooks.com/colorpurple/teacherguide.asp). I'm not sure how I feel about your choice of font - at first I thought red is good - grabs attention then I wondered about using purple there as well...not sure. Nice job Denise
